Press Release: Halifax Author's New Children's Book Delves Deep into Atlantic Ocean

HALIFAX/April 28, 2015 — Scotia Sinker, a new children's chapter book from Sketch Publishing, officially launches on Tuesday, May 5, 2015.

"It appeals to early middle grade readers who love excitement, dynamic characters and adventure in the North Atlantic Ocean," says its author, Alison DeLory.

In Scotia Sinker Cameron, 10, and Erin, 6, take a new adventure in their cardboard box — this time transforming it with their magic markers into a small submarine that plunges them into the Atlantic Ocean. They're pulled far from home, deep into wild waters where thrills and threats await. Here, Cameron and Erin need all their bravery and the help of some interesting aquatic friends to outrun Lydia, a tagged great white shark based on the real shark of the same name who's been tracked swimming through the North Atlantic for the past two years.

Scotia Sinker is the sequel to DeLory's successful 2012 book Lunar Lifter. DeLory has opened her own publishing label, Sketch Publishing, through which she's now releasing her books. Glen Margaret Publishing is her distributor and DeLory's books will be sold in traditional bookstores, gift stores, and online through alisondelory/, and internationally through

Scotia Sinker hooks young readers at the beginning of the first chapter and leaves them wanting more. Both avid readers and those students who are reluctant readers will get caught up in the adventures of the characters Cameron and Erin. Alison DeLory takes her readers on an imaginative journey," says Lorraine Kelly, a grade three teacher at Millwood Elementary School.

DeLory will be participating in Authors for Indies this Saturday, May 2, with advance copies. That’s when authors across Canada support independent bookstores by volunteering as guest book sellers. She will be at Carrefour Atlantic in Halifax's Historic Properties.

DeLory is also a freelance journalist, editor, teacher and consultant. She's on the council of the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia and is a visiting author through its Writers in the Schools program. She teaches part-time at Mount Saint Vincent University in communication studies. She collaborated with Halifax illustrator Joel Duggan on Scotia Sinker.
